Watching Pangea Day
There are three ways to watch the live Pangea Day program on May 10:
1) Television (local terrestrial or cable network):
We expect hundreds of broadcasters around the world to carry the live program on May 10, 2008. Watching a local broadcast will be the most convenient option – and free unless the program is being carried on a cable network.
Closer to the event, we’ll be providing a list of broadcasters around the world that have signed on to carry the live program. We plan to post an initial list on www.pangeaday.org in early April and will update it as new broadcasters sign on.
If you’re hosting a large public event, we encourage you to contact local broadcasters in your area to find out if they will be showing Pangea Day. Keep us informed at about your communications with them.
2) Satellite:
We will be beaming our broadcast (unencrypted) via satellite around the world. If your venue has satellite downlink capabilities, you can download the broadcast (in Standard Definition) for free.
An advantage is that you will receive the live Pangea Day broadcast unedited and without commercials. The drawback is that you will need special equipment that can be expensive to rent – prices vary around the world – if your venue is not already equipped.
We will post the satellite coordinates on www.pangeaday.org much closer to the day of the event.
3) Digital/Internet:
We will be streaming our broadcast online via www.pangeaday.org. It will be available for free to anyone who has an Internet connection, ideally a broadband or high-speed connection (cable or DSL) for best viewing.
One drawback is the lower resolution associated with online streaming.
Accessing the live program via the Internet is not appropriate for larger public events that depend on large-screen projection.
For smaller public or private events, you could set up several computers in one location where people can watch.
If you’re hosting a large public event, we encourage you to work with an audio-visual company to create optimal viewing conditions (e.g. large enough screens and appropriate audio equipment) and to get the satellite feed, if that’s your chosen mode of accessing the live program on Pangea Day.
The live Pangea Day program will be available in multiple languages. Closer to the date, we’ll post a list of languages on www.pangeaday.org.
